Looking Closer At Left Handed Golf Players
We can't accuse the golf club manufacturers for targeting their most prosperous market of right-handed golf players, but it is quite hard for those golf players who play left handed to get the options offered to the traditional players.
I have known a couple of golfers who made the switch early on by training to play right handed but yet this is unrealistic for a lot of people. You have to be playing in the most normal manner you can and if that means left handed in that case so be it.
Unfortunately with everything nowadays it all comes right down to economics and productivity and there simply isn't enough income to be made for many companies in the left-handed industry.
The percentage of left handed golf players to right handed golf players is somewhere in the region of 8 % so the industry is very small, although it is a niche market that several brands are targeting although at more cost in most instances.
But there is usually a silver lining to the issues that we may encounter.
At a recent tournament event, I was introduced to an old gentleman who was playing on a small disadvantage and had done so for several years. Throughout the conversation he mentioned left-handed clubs and the idea that he had started playing left handed in the beginning.
He hadn't learned the way to play from an expert and had developed some horrible methods.
After a while, due to frustration with his performance and the inadequacy to source the clubs he wanted to, he employed some professional aid. After much discussion it was determined that he should try out playing right handed and the golf professional would give him the required training.
It was a godsend as he was successfully starting from scratch and he learned the way to play golf without any of the horrible strategies that he had developed on his own. The switch from left to right, in addition to the professional training had held him in good steed for the rest of his golf playing career.
Indeed, it was a major decision that almost all golfers wouldn't do, but you can never defeat a golf player at trying to further improve his game regardless of what steps they might do.
