Permanent Dentures

Should you be a candidate for tooth extraction then you will also be in need of tooth replacement. You have got to replace those extracted teeth using individual teeth or with dentures. When I mention individual teeth I am talking about two or three teeth which could be placed in the sockets where the teeth were removed, and then joined to each other and also to the anchor teeth right next to them.

However if, you have had all of your teeth extracted then you may want to think about having removable acrylic dentures. It is well known what the traditional, removable acrylic dentures look like. On the other hand, you may want to have permanent dentures. The permanent dentures are likewise known as implants.

Implants are placed into the mouth surgically and fixed on about three screws that are placed into the upper or lower jaw. These screws will function as the mount which holds the permanent dentures in place. The permanent dentures can be placed into the mouth right after extraction or later on. The best way to have implants set into place is right after the extraction. The denture will be set into the ridge created by the extraction.

When you insert you implants in this way then you will feel as if you have your natural teeth, because you have not ever been without teeth. When you wait, then you will have been without teeth for a while, and when the implants are set in place they will feel unusual. It can also take you longer to get used to having teeth in your mouth again.

Before deciding what kind of dentures you want, you should do some homework and research. After you have found the different kinds of dentures available in the market, talk to your dentist about what you have found and check if he has anything else to offer. He may tell you what type of dentures could be best for you. You can now make a decision. However, there is still yet another thing you have to do in order to be sure that your decision is a good one.

One more thing that you have to do is check out your insurance plan, to find out if it covers the type of denture that you have decided on. Not all insurance companies cover dental work, and most specifically dentures. You will want to talk to your insurance company about the denture that you decided on and see if your current insurance plan covers that particular denture. If it does not cover the denture that you have decided on then ask which kind of denture it does cover. The same is applicable to those that have Medicare or Medicaid. Medicare will only cover the extraction and not the denture. To know what Medicaid covers you must talk to your counselor at the Department of Human Services.

Looking into these two programs to see which one will cover the denture that you would like should be done prior to telling your dentist what your final decision will be. You would not want to make the arrangements and start the work only to learn that you cannot afford to pay for it.
