Pharmacy Technician Salary After A Certification
Pharmacists today are in a position to take their field into places it has never been. Because of their expanded roles, they are even more needed than before. The number of patients needing pharmacy-related services will increase in the coming years because of a number of factors, which is why pharmacists need to delegate some of their own tasks to pharmacy technicians. Performing these tasks wouldn't be a problem for a well-trained technician, an assurance that the pharmacist need in order for him to see more patients. The only concern by some pharmacists with this set-up is that some employers might be tempted to hire technicians instead of pharmacists so that they can pay lower pharmacy technician salary.
You will always see pharmacy technicians in every pharmacy these days. They perform various tasks, both administrative ones and different pharmacy-related responsibilities. Their responsibilities vary depending on the size of the pharmacy, what the pharmacists assign to them, and what the State regulations allows them to perform. The pharmacy technician pay is not surprisingly why a lot of them choose this career over other career options. If you're a pharmacy technician, you will have all the opportunities to succeed in your chosen profession but you do need to work hard and be qualified.
It seems like a natural evolution for pharmacy technicians to have expanded tasks but there are some people that do not agree with this. There may be some valid reasons to some people's concerns about these expanded roles when they consider the type of training most technicians have. Pharmacists need to make sure there are no errors in the things that the technicians do, especially when prescriptions are involved. However, there are just some things that can never be eradicated entirely. To finish their many tasks in time, pharmacists weren't able to spend much time in checking the work of the technicians. The public though, needs the assurance that they are being served competently by technicians that do deserve their pharmacy technician salary.
In other western countries, there is a training requirement in place for pharmacy technicians. Pharmacy technicians in the US, however, need to have high school diplomas only. Fortunately, a certification is a requirement in some States, but not all. Some States unfortunately, are lax in this certification requirement and this will certainly pose danger to the public. Fortunately for the customers of some pharmacies, technicians with formal training are the ones that are hired by most pharmacies. Certified pharmacy technicians are also getting the attention they deserve. You will not only be hired first by your employer, you will most likely get offered better pharmacy technician salary also because of your training and certification.
Negotiating with your employer for a better salary rate is easier of you can back up your salary demands with your various qualifications. Being certified pharmacy technicians is one qualification they can pursue. It is a widely held belief that certified technicians earn better pharmacy technician salary as a result of this added qualification they've acquired. One other factor that affects the technicians' salary is the size of the pharmacy where they're working. If possible, work for larger pharmacies if you want to earn better salary. The geographical location of the pharmacy will have an effect on the rate of the salary you may get offered.
Qualified pharmacy technicians don't have any problem doing some of the pharmacists' work for them. There are tasks though, that require the pharmacists' professional judgment and these tasks are not meant to be done by technicians. Filling prescriptions is a job technicians can perform because the physician who wrote the prescription has already made the decision on what kind of medicine to use. Filling these prescriptions though, still need ample training. The technicians need to do their job well to deserve the pharmacy technician wage they're receiving.
